Dr. Daniel Chevallier is a musician who is expanding possibilities for brass instruments through performance, pedagogy, adaptation, and composition.
Daniel is committed to expanding the classical repertoire of the trombone through both new works and the adaptation of existing works, as well as conducting and playing his own arrangements for chamber brass, brass ensemble, and trombone ensemble. This interest also extends to the composition of original works, which are cataloged and available for purchase on the Works page.
This passion extends for this repertoire’s applications to and inclusion in pedagogy, which includes the first proper critical edition of the Brahms trumpet/horn etudes transcribed for alto and tenor trombone. He has coached ensembles including the CSO Brass and the Grand Teton Music Festival Brass Quintet, maintains an active studio of trombone students, and frequently appears as a guest artist and clinician throughout the U.S.. Adjacent to pedagogy is his work as a Model Validation Expert for Handshake AI, in which he has helped shape LLMs developed by top industry players to better suit users’ musical needs.
Besides fresh adaptations of existing works, Daniel has given numerous world premieres, US premieres, TX premieres, and co-premieres as part of his commitment to the presentation of new and emerging works. Included in this effor are three studio recordings: Hope (featuring the late Dallas Symphony principal trumpet and Canadian Brass trumpet player Ryan Anthony), and Noteworthy and One for All (featuring the Barcelona Clarinet Players). He has also appeared live with ensembles including the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Arlington, and Garland Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel holds a BM in Music Performance from the University of North Texas and an MM in Music Performance from Northwestern University. In 2026, Daniel was awarded his Doctorate of Musical Arts from UNT; his dissertation is a guide to adapting solo repertoire for the alto trombone. His teachers include Tony Baker, Christopher Davis, Randy Hawes, Timothy Higgins, Natalie Mannix, Steve Menard, Michael Mulcahy, Timothy Owner, Eric Starr, Gail Williams, and Douglas Wright.
In his free time, Daniel enjoys reading books, rock climbing, and playing the roguelite of the week.
